Governor’s Residence, Yangon

One of our favourite hotels in Myanmar, providing an escape from the bustling city, this property has been beautifully restored with colonial charm.

A romantic, colonial-style mansion dating from the 1920s, Belmond Governor's Residence is redolent of the days when it was home to the ruler of Myanmar's southern states. With its fan-cooled verandas and teak armchairs, this delightful hotel in the elegant Embassy Quarter of Yangon conjures up a bygone era while offering every modern pleasure.

Rooms are understated, with an elegance that typifies Myanmar. Carved teak and sumptuous silks combine to make the spacious rooms both fresh and timeless. Set in a verdant garden dotted with lotus pools, the hotel is a truly magical retreat at the end of a day spent visiting the majestic Shwedagon Pagoda.

Evenings can be spent at the Kipling Bar, sipping homemade cocktails. Named after Rudyard Kipling, the bar offers a relaxing atmosphere in which to sample fine wines, signature cocktails, or high-quality teas and coffee. The Mandalay restaurant serves the most amazing local cuisine; the restaurant also benefits from a romantic location, surrounded by tropical gardens and lotus ponds.

PJ Tip – Make sure you have enough time in Yangon to enjoy the hotel!
