Tribes, Predators and Me
Gordon Buchanan has for years been the cameraman hidden behind the lens of some of the BBC's most amazing natural history programmes; Tribes, Predators and Me saw him move in front of the camera.
Since the filming of the ground breaking Human Planet in Western Mongolia we have built extremely close, trusting relationships with many of the Eagle Hunter families of the region. It was our job to find the right character with a storyline to match to ensure the success of this programme and, as ever in Mongolia, efficient logistics in the remote wilderness were the key to the success of this shoot – both of which we executed successfully so that the team were able to make a beautiful and moving episode.
Gordon joined a family of nomads to learn about golden eagles from the experts and help them train a young eagle to hunt. He also accompanied the eagle hunter as he bade an emotional farewell to the eagle that had served him well for years but was now to be released into the wild.
